Your baby’s first birthday is a huge milestone, and a cake smash photoshoot is the perfect, fun-filled way to celebrate it. These sessions are fun, engaging and completely personalised, capturing your baby’s personality as they explore, taste, squish and enjoy their cake!
A cake smash session is all about letting your little one take the lead. Whether they dive straight in with both hands or approach the icing cautiously, every reaction makes for beautiful photographs you’ll love looking back on.
My cake smash photography sessions take place in the studio at Paxcroft Farm in Hilperton, ideally located for families from Wiltshire, Trowbridge, Bath, Somerset, Frome and surrounding areas. Each setup is styled in soft, classic tones or themed colours — nothing too busy, keeping your baby the focus of every image.
Sessions include three parts:

A splash bath at the end – to clean up while capturing some bubbly moments!

What To Expect
At your baby’s first birthday Cake Smash
Your session will be relaxed, fun and completely baby-led. When you arrive at the studio, you’ll have time to settle in, get your baby changed into their first outfit, and let them explore the space.
We begin with simple, classic portraits of your baby, which are perfect for marking their first birthday before things get messy!
Then it’s time for the cake. We’ll decide before your session what your setup will look like. While I don’t do themes, I do provide balloons and some decoration so that you Cake Smash is completely personal to you We’ll place the cake in front of you baby and let the fun begin! Some babies dive straight in, others take a little encouragement, but both make for gorgeous, natural images.
Finally, your baby can enjoy a warm splash in the mini tub. This not only cleans them up, but also creates some of the cutest photos of the session.
Afterwards, you’ll receive an online gallery to choose your collection.

Collections
Cake smash collections
A £95 booking fee is payable upon booking to secure your cake smash session, which includes a beautiful hand made cake for your session, your shoot and putting together your preview gallery. The booking fee does not include any digital or printed images, but will be deducted from the value of the collection you choose after you have viewed your images..
Around two weeks after your session, you’ll receive a preview gallery so that you can choose your favourite images and purchase your collection. Preview galleries can be viewed in my studio on a large high resolution monitor (highly recommended!) or via a secure online gallery.

- The whole gallery of edited high resolution digital images (approximately 30) with full print licence
- 10 matching 6×8 prints
- Online gallery to download your chosen images to download and share with your family and friends
Cake Smash Photography FAQs
What is the best time to book a cake smash?
Most clients choose to have a cake smash for their baby’s first birthday, and refer to book it around a month beforehand so the photos are ready before the big day. However, I could do a second, third, fortieth birthday cake smash too!
Can we choose a theme or colours?
I offer a selection of soft, timeless colour palettes. We’ll chat before your session so everything is styled to your preferences.
How long does the session last?
Around 60 minutes, depending on your baby’s mood. There’s no rushing, we go at their pace.
Can parents or siblings be in the photos?
Absolutely – I love to start the session with family and sibling photos.
What should my baby wear?
Simple, neutral outfits work beautifully for a cake smash. Be sure to bring a clean outfit change for the end!
What if my baby doesn’t want to touch the cake?
It happens! I gently encourage babies using toys, spoons or hands-on play. Bring a favourite snack with you and we can hide that in the cake for encouragement!
When will we receive the images?
Your gallery will be ready within 1–2 weeks of your session.
Where is the studio located?
The studio is at Paxcroft Farm in Hilperton, easy to access from Trowbridge, Frome, Bath, Bradford-on-Avon, Somerset and across Wiltshire.
