Cake smash photo shoots have become more and more popular in the last few years – they’re a really fun way to mark a baby’s first year. At my studio in Bradford on Avon, I work with parents to plan a set that will look great printed and displayed in their homes. Packages include a lovely hand made cake from bakers Lola and the Bear. Vegan, dairy free and gluten free options available on request.

Little Elijah has been into the studio several times since he was born in 2020. So far he’s been in for a newborn session, Christmas session, a sitter session and now a cake smash and splash session for his first birthday.
His mum was keen to design a woodland theme for the session. After a consultation, we decided on a woodland themed backdrop from Props for Togs, a frame and sleeve for the floor from Graceland Designs. The set including crates from Blessence Photography Props and wooden ONE letters from French White Designs. We chose bronze coloured balloons to enhance the set, and real ivy was draped across the crate at the back.

The session was split into three parts, with Elijah having some family portraits with his cousins first. We then moved on to the cake smash section of the shoot, which is the messy part! The final part was a warm bubble bath to clean the cake off, which is usually a favourite with babies.

Get in touch if you’d like to book your own first birthday cake smash session for your one year old!
